Our Work

Cultural Sensitivity Training

Cultural sensitivity means being aware that cultural differences and similarities exist and have an effect on ones values, learning and behavior. Our cultural sensitivity training focuses on the value of recognizing one’s own culture and engages participants in dialogue and self-reflection in realizing culture is not an ethnic origin, but a way of living. Learning traditions and characteristics of culture are a part of becoming culturally sensitive. Through research based evidence and best practices, our trainers will assist participants to develop a willingness to adapt their own behaviors to be compatible with another’s cultural norms. As participants unpack their culture and reflect on personal beliefs, values and attitudes, they will examine their roles and the skills needed to become more culturally sensitive. This training emphasizes building relationships, establishing trust, and engaging in mutual cooperation and collaboration. Training length ranges between 90 minutes to a full-day, depending on client need. Training cost is based on size and depth of training. Please contact us for more information.

Alcohol and Drug Treatment

MindMap's theoretical models, which support A&D and mental health treatment services, flow from established, evidence-based approaches. These include the Risk-vs.-Protective Model of substance abuse; the Ecological Context Model of development and of bio-psycho-social-spiritual factors contributing to mental-health and A&D problems; Brief Strengths-Based Case-Management for substance abuse; cognitive-behavioral therapy; Motivational Interviewing; Solution-Focused Therapy; stress management and relaxation techniques; relapse prevention; and 12-step programs with assigned sponsors. Referrals to other models such as dialectical behavioral therapy and medication management for co-occurring disorders are made to other service providers, but are monitored and their working elements integrated into weekly monitoring and counseling sessions as needed.

Fatherhood Engagement Group

Our Fatherhood Engagement Group engages fathers in the development of life skills differentiating between the role of a “father” as opposed to the role of a “dad and a Father’s responsibility to be responsible. Emphasis is placed on a father being involved in all facets of a child’s growth and development while expanding their understanding that fatherhood will be the most pleasurable inconvenience they will ever experience.  The group process involves lesson and discussion in a structured therapeutic nurturing and supportive environment where fathers receive hands-on instruction and model new parenting ideas. Fathers can ask questions and receive encouragement and support and celebrate successes. The 16-week group meets twice per week.  For additional information and fee schedule, please contact us.

Batterer Intervention Group for Men

The SoValTi Batterer Intervention Program (BIP) is based on the EVOLVE educational curriculum for male domestic violence offenders with female victims. This group oriented process focuses on culturally sensitive intervention and prevention strategies which consider diversity and gender. Groups stress self-examination as a means to uncover abusive behavior. Skill development promotes emotional regulations and quick acceptance of responsibility for the choice to behave abusively. This course is also available to all men who are interested in exploring the issue of violence against women and how they can change their behaviors.  In addition, we provide crisis intervention for clients. Group Schedule: clients attend 52 weekly classes. Each class is two hours. For more information and fees, please contact us.

Therapeutic Visitation

Our therapists will consult with the referral source to arrange the details of the service, such as number of hours/week, visit location, etc. After 3-4 visits, the therapist will develop a treatment plan in conjunction with the referral source and the parent. Types of services includes: teaching the parent(s) the unique needs of the children, using approaches that meet the parent’s own style; helping the parent understand the child’s needs and/or diagnoses and how these needs may develop in the future; teaching the parent(s) to interact with the child during visitation based on the child’s developmental and emotional needs; teaching the parent(s) unique approaches to deepen bonds with the child. Minimum of 12 sessions required. For more information and cost, please contact us.
